Samy Strola

Samy Strola was born in Varallo, Italy, in 1979. He graduated in Physics (2003), received PhD in Physics (2008) and obtained a specialization in Materials Science (2009). From 2008 to 2013, He worked as postdoc researcher at EU-JRC in Ispra, TU Delft, TU Eindhoven, CRP Lippmann Luxembourg and CEA-LETI in Grenoble.

Since December 2013, Samy Strola leads the HISTORAM project which born from a collaboration between CEA-LETI, Albert Bonniot Institute and University Hospital Centre in Grenoble. Prizewinner of the Challenge First Step 2013 at CEA Grenoble and of the Oncostarter program at CLARA Canceropole Lyon, he obtained a financial support to develop a simple and low-cost device based on Raman Imaging for rapid cancer diagnosis. This tool is currently en route for the pre-clinical validation at OPTIC CLINIC laboratory. The long term objective is the creation of a start-up for clinical applications.

His research interest is the development of new spectroscopic and optical techniques in the medical field. He have competencies on several characterization techniques (Raman, XPS, ToF-SIMS, FTIR, AFM, SEM, QCM) applied to different fields. He have very good knowledge of optical and imaging benches development.

Samy Strola is now specializing on medical applications of Raman Spectroscopy. Furthermore, he is fascinated by the technological transfer and he is considering the possibility of creating a start-up as an exciting challenge.

Outside of work Samy Strola is photographer, fencer, books and movies lover, passionate about mountains and supporter of Torino FC football team.
